A quarter of a century's worth of prolific gaming cred makes the BlizzCon 2016 opening rites a historic moment to behold. The gaming company's desktop game based on the popular Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) platform, "Heroes of the Storm," receives an update with two new heroes that have been brewing in its developer's desks for a while.
The gaming community and legions of dedicated Blizzard fans loyal to the "Warcraft" franchise may well meet the two new characters with a warm response. The two new heroes are Varian Wrynn and Ragnaros the Fire Lord, characters which veteran "World of Warcraft" players will surely opt for and obsess on.
Varian is a "Heroes of the Storm" first multi-class hero. He can be played as a shield Warrior or as an Assassin with twin blades. These turn-based abilities are available at levels 4 and 10 in "Heroes of the Storm," and Wrynn's epic skills all depend on how the player's style and strategy unleash mayhem when playing "Heroes of the Storm."
Ragnaros, on the other hand, is a nuker slash Assassin, with spells and abilities that are reminiscent of his Molten Core origins, drawing in waves of burning lava that can incinerate wave upon wave of minions and foes. True to its character origin, the Fire Lord also has a trait called Molten Core, which can be activated to take hold of a fort, whether it's still standing or not, growing the fearsome Fire Lord into a massive boss throwing down molten rock and burning Sulfuras.
A fully patched release of Varian Wrynn will follow on November 15, with the character available for balance testing as early as next week, according to a report by ESPN. Those who wish to set the Nexus ablaze will have to wait a little longer, though, as Ragnaros the Fire Lord will only be available by December for "Heroes of the Storm."
A new map for "Heroes of the Storm" newest brawl was also revealed. The map is called Blackheart's Revenge, wherein one team has a core and the other side tries to set a ship to sail the high seas. Teams will take turns attacking and defending the ghost ship until one outwits the other and emerges victorious.
Blizzard has also announced the upcoming Nexus Challenge mode. This will let challengers play 15 games with a friend and receive prizes like the Oni skin for Genji in "Overwatch" and the hero Zarya for "Heroes of the Storm." Surpassing 30 games will unlock special character skins and the Orochi Hovercycle mount.
