The only eight-division world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao proved that retirement was still far away for the new welterweight world champion. Heavy Sports News reported that boxing champ Manny Pacquiao now has a career record of 59 wins with 38 knockouts, six losses, and two draws. On the other hand, Jessie Vargas dropped to 27 wins and two defeats.
Jessie Vargas who defeated Sadam Ali in March for the WBO welterweight title has lost two of his last three bouts with the other defeat coming from Timothy Bradley Jr. Bradley was a commentator for Saturday's bout for Top Rank Boxing and other boxing luminaries were in attendance as well.
According to Forbes, on round 2, the boxing champ Manny Pacquiao exchanged some heavy blows and gave a straight left that dropped Vargas into the seat of his trunks for a count. But luckily, Jessie Vargas got up and seemed to shook his legs a little and pushed through that round.
Luck ran out for Vargas in round 8, when both of them exchanged terrific blows until their heads came together. The headbang caused a swollen cut above Jessie Vargas's right eye and it put him at a disadvantage in the next few rounds.
And in the final round, Jessie Vargas fought admirably and never stopped coming forward against boxing champ Pacquiao. But it was clear that he was running out of breath, and he still needs a real miracle to win the fight.
Pacquiao was stalking him a lot on that round but not letting his punches go. Manny landed huge glancing straight left and Vargas dropped to his knee. However, Bayless ruled it just a slip. The final round ended before Jessie Vargas can pull off any unthinkable moment to get even with the boxing champ Pacquiao. The fight ended with a new world welterweight champion.
Floyd Mayweather watched the fight from ringside, as did the undefeated WBO super lightweight champion Terence Crawford.
While his future opponent is still uncertain, there is no doubt that Manny Pacquiao still has his speed and skills that can possible allow him to defeat the remaining top welterweights in the boxing world.
