"Grand Theft Auto 6" from Rockstar will be released as scheduled and reportedly with a "GTA 6" London map. While Rockstar release of "Red Dead Redemption 2" is enjoying attention at the moment, the anticipated "Grand Theft Auto" has not been sidelined.
Official details on the "Grand Theft Auto 6" release had been anticipated when parent company Take Two Interactive announced Rockstar participation at E3 2016. However, as much as buzz on a new "Grand Theft Auto" was triggered by this announcement, so was speculation that "Red Dead Redemption 2" was forthcoming.
Although perception may place that release of "Red Dead Redemption 2" means development of "Grand Theft Auto 6" had been put on hold and vice versa, this is not necessarily the case. To qualify, release of "GTA 6" by Rockstar is not delayed by availability of the new "Red Dead Redemption."
Historically, the numbered "Grand Theft Auto" titles have always had a few years between releases. "Grand Theft Auto 4" was released seven years after "GTA 3." "Grand Theft Auto 5" was released five years after "GTA 4."
Rockstar could reasonably release "Grand Theft Auto 6" 2018 at the earliest. However a 2020 release of "GTA 6" by Rockstar would equally not be out of the ordinary.
This should give Rockstar sufficient time if "Grand Theft Auto 6" were to be given a map outside of the US. As has been widely reported "GTA 6" looks to be happening in a London setting.
Parent Herald cites report by Mobi Picker that the London map for "Grand Theft Auto 6" has already been teased by Rockstar in "GTA 5." Particular London references in "Grand Theft Auto 5" were identified by the media outlet as easter eggs for "GTA 6."
The franchise has had side stories or mission packs "Grand Theft Auto: London 1969" and "Grand Theft Auto: London 1961" released in 1999. "Grand Theft Auto 6" would then be the first time that a London map will be given to a major "GTA" release.
