'Mulan' Live-Action Movie Cast Updates: Eddie Murphy Returns As Mushu? Search Continues For Chinese Lead Actress

Ever since the upcoming "Mulan" live-action movie was confirmed, controversy has not left it side. The upcoming movie was met with criticism after rumors broke that the lead role could be played by a Caucasian actress.

White washing in Hollywood has been a hot topic recently and the "Mulan" live-action is not exempt. Fans took their worries online and even started a petition against casting Jennifer Lawrence for the lead role when the speculations started to circulate. Good thing, execs were quick to dismiss rumors that no Caucasian actors will be involved in the filming.

It was also confirmed just recently that the "Mulan" live-action movie will feature an all-Chinese cast. Just Jared shared that the movie has finished rewriting the script that ensures no white washing will happen for the movie's cast.

However, some fans have started to share in jest that they wanted Eddie Murphy back in the "Mulan" live-action to reprise his role as Mushu, the tiny dragon that played Mulan's confidant in the original animation. In a Reddit forum, fans continued to joke about the possibility of Eddie returning without CGI and just wearing a dragon suit the whole time. As one fan mentioned, dragons technically don't have a race so it would be a non-issue should Eddie return.

Meanwhile, the lead role for the "Mulan" live-action has yet to be casted. Movie Pilot has previously offered some viable candidates for the lead role in the "Mulan" live-action movie which include Chinese actresses Zhang Ziyi and Fan Bingbing, Chinese-American Malese Jow and Japanese actress and "Pacific Rim" star Rinko Kikuchi.

The "Mulan" live-action movie will be helmed by "Game of Thrones" main director Alex Graves, Variety noted. Stay tuned for more "Mulan" live-action updates here!
