Mobile Phone News: Sprint to Launch New HTC Bolt on November 11; Alexa AI Assistant Included

The HTC Bolt mid-range cellphone is rumored to be launched by Sprint on November 11. The cutting-edge HTC Bolt runs on Android Nougat, but more importantly, it comes with the Amazon Alexa AI assistant. This is considered a game-changing development in mobile phone technology.

HTC Bolt is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 510 with a 5.5 inch 2560x1440 pixel screen. It has a 16MP back-facing camera with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and is capable of 4K video with 24-bit hi-res audio. HTC Bolt also boasts an 8MP front-facing camera.

According to GSMArena.com, the HTC Bolt will be waterproof and dust-proof. It is IP57 certified for weather and is water- and dust-resistant. The report also says that the HTC Bolt will be able to withstand up to half an hour of being submerged in water up to one meter deep. HTC source materials however specifically state that users should not test the unit for the above conditions.

TheVerge describes the HTC Bolt as looking "like an HTC 10 but without a headphone jack." This is understandable considering the need for additional seals for the new phone. This is also the same strategy used by Apple in the iPhone 7.

In lieu of the audio jack, HTC Bolt will have a USB-C port. In addition that this also lays down the development path for digital audio-based systems. HTC already boasts of high-quality audio for its mobile phones and the HTC Bolt will also be able to record 4K video with 24-bit resolution audio.

Another new feature is the use of "the world's first adaptive earphones." This means that the earphones have an automatic calibration for the user's ears. The HTC Bolt will also deliver 24-bit audio processing to the digital earphones. Without the audio jack, the phone will have to rely on its USB-C port or Bluetooth for audio output.
