A report claims an update has been leaked from Apple, revealing the cancellation of the anticipated iPhone SE refresh for 2017. The leak came from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who said that Apple has made a decision to cancel the release of the iPhone SE upgrade.
Apple is reportedly not coming out with an iPhone SE upgrade yet. According to the research note by Kuo, the reason behind the cancellation of iPhone SE upgrade is the price margin, Macrumors reported.
Apple plans to keep up the high price margins on its high-end iPhone series, forcing the company to implement the cancellation. According to the report, Kuo believes that in order for Apple to maintain the high price margins, the company will have to put greater pressure on the producers of the components of iPhone to decrease its prices.
The forecast that Kuo has made shows a decline in the total shipment volume of iPhones during the first half of 2017. The decline stems from the lukewarm demand from China, lack of an iPhone SE upgrade in the second quarter of the year, and the slow volume of shipment of the 4.7-inch iPhones.
Another possible reason for the cancellation of the 2017 iPhone SE is the aim to minimize the risk of cannibalization that the new upgrade might possibly gain over the sales of the iPhone 7. The latter is more profitable than the anticipated 2017 iPhone SE so Apple has prioritized to capitalize on the iPhone 7 and canceled the iPhone SE upgrade, Forbes noted.
The iPhone SE is Apple's most powerful yet affordable 4-inch phone ever. The iPhone SE boasts of its 12-megapixel camera for improved photos and 4k videos.
The 4-inch iPhone SE sports the latest A9 chip, which is also found in iPhone 6s. This powerful chip contains the M9 motion coprocessor which connects to the compass, accelerometer, and gyroscope beneficial for tracking capabilities to measure distance, steps and other motion.
