Sony has made a decent name for itself in the smartphone market. Its latest release the Sony Xperia XZ is being marketed as its most ambitious yet. Question is, will the Sony Xperia XZ hold its own against the iPhone 7 Plus? Here's a quick review of their features.
The Sony Xperia XZ is the latest among the Xperia line, and it boasts improved camera and video capabilities. It is built around the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 quad-core 2.1GHz, 64-bit processor. It also has an Adreno 530 GPU, 3GB RAMand 32GB internal storage, with additional storage courtesy of a microSD slot.
PC-Tablet mentions its notable qualities. Sony Xperia XZ has a 5.2-inch 1080x1920 display with a scratch resistant glass made of Corning Gorilla Glass 4. It is water and dust resistant and rated IP68. It runs on Android 6.
On the other hand, the Apple iPhone 7 Plus is built around the Apple A10 Fusion processor. This is a hybrid 4-core processor which only uses 2 processors at a time. Two processors are for ordinary use, while the other two processors are switched on when there is a need for heavy lifting.
The processor is a 2.34GHz, 64-bit with a proprietary graphics processor. The iPhone 7 Plus has 3GB RAM with up to 256GB storage, depending on the model. It does not have a microSD slot for storage expansion. Display is a 5.5-inch 1080x1920, scratch-resistant glass with an oleophobic coating. The iPhone 7 Plus is rated IP67 for water and dust resistance.
Phone Arena compared the specs. The cameras on these two cell phones follow different philosophies. The Xperia XC has 23MP, against the 12 MP on the iPhone 7 Plus. The front-facing cameras have 13MP for the Sony, while Apple has a 7MP camera. Most people would think that Sony should capture better pictures because they have more pixels to play with. The truth is Apple produces better pictures because of what it adds to the camera.
Sony has both phase detection and laser detection autofocus (PDAF and LDAF). It also allows manual focus. Apple has optical image stabilization (OIS), autofocus, a back-illuminated sensor, and a sapphire crystal lens cover. It can also capture images in RAW format; it has touch-to-focus and face detection. For video, Sony has digital image stabilization, while Apple also uses it optical images stabilization.
