The epic saga "Game of Thrones" is nearing its conclusion. The record-breaking HBO TV series which gathered millions of followers worldwide is currently in production of perhaps "GOT's" final season, but recent talks also confirmed a possibility of a prequel to the show.
The "Song of Ice and Fire" books on which the "Game of Thrones" series is based on is still not yet complete. Fans who can't get enough of the universe created for "Game of Thrones" will still have a couple of books to look forward to.
However, it may not be the end of the "Game of Thrones" TV series yet. HBO has been talking about a possible prequel to the series.
When "Game of Thrones" began, it introduced us to a fantasy world with a rich history, a history that is hinted in character dialogue and flashbacks. This history of "Game of Thrones" could provide background information on the various houses of Westeros, including the complex blood relationships of each house, and the rise to power of some of Westeros' most influential families. The backstories of how Westeros came to be what it was in the "Game of Thrones" series, provide a great amount of material for a prequel to "Game of Thrones".
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Casey Bloys, HBO's Programming President confirmed that they were in talks with George R.R. Martin to discuss the possibility of a prequel. Although HBO has never done a prequel to any of its TV series' before, "Game of Thrones" could be the exception to that.
Currently, there is no final word yet on the prequel. Another item of discussion with HBO has been the possibility of a Season 8 and a full-length film for its series grand finale.
Although all of that may sound exciting to "Game of Thrones" fans. All Bloys had to say about it was "I want everything I can get for HBO, I'll just leave it at that."
