Marvel's New Show 'Inhumans' Coming This September 2017

Mark your calendars, Marvel fans: the Marvel Cinematic Universe is expanding even further with an upcoming television show "Inhumans". The show is coming to your small and big screens next September 2017.

If that sounds confusing, it is due to the collaboration between Marvel, ABC and IMAX Corporation. The show will first debut on the massive screens of IMAX, before coming to television. The New York Times reported that the deal will see the first two episodes of the show shot on IMAX digital cameras and played on IMAX screens all over the world in September next year. After a two-week stint in the cinemas, the show will then air the two episodes with extra footage weekly, along with subsequent episodes, on ABC.

The upside to this complicated arrangement is the show will have the enhanced technology of IMAX. Whether this will deter or attract fans to the small screen version of the show is yet to be seen.

Fans of Marvel's "Inhumans" will be relieved to finally have a confirmation on the project. Initially, "Inhumans" was slated to be a standalone movie, connected to the other superhero movies in the Marvel Universe. However, complications arose as rumors of the movie's cancellation, first reported on Bleeding Cool, during the New York Comic Con 2015 gained traction.

To make things worse, the president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, did not clear up the confusion immediately, promising that "Inhumans will happen for sure". In a conversation with /Film, he also claimed that "it's happening on television" but also, "it could happen as a movie". What seemed to be a baffling statement from Feige now made sense with the reveal of ABC and IMAX's collaboration.

Whether or not "Inhumans" will make its mark on cable television is still up for question. Although Netflix has hit successes with Marvel products such as Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, the television show "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" does not rake in as much audience while the canceled "Agent Carter" had been a flop.

The Inhumans are described as a group of humans "with extraordinary abilities" that have "various powers" but also with "lasting genetic damage and deformities" on Marvel's website. It will follow the story of a royal family of superheroes. The Inhumans have been a prominent plotline in recent episodes of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" so it will be interesting to see how these two separate shows develop the storyline further.

Are you excited to see the show on IMAX screens? Will the "Inhumans" make you tune into "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D"? Share us your thoughts about the show in the comments below.
