"Watch Dogs 2" gamers were rocked by the presence of explicit nudity in the gameplay. The action-adventure, which was launched on Nov. 15 on the PS4 and Xbox One, was always marketed for mature content yet gamers were unprepared for what they saw. "Watch Dogs 2" game creator Ubisoft apologized for the content after Sony announced it will be banning players who will share genitalia images screen captured in the game.
In a statement sent to Polygon, Ubisoft apologized and acknowledged for the explicitly nude content found in an NPC (non-playing character) on "Watch Dogs 2." It also reiterated that there will be updates to the game to address this issue.
"[We] will update this NPC model to make it more consistent with other NPC models in the game in a patch to be released this week," the company stated. The apology comes after gamers have shared screen shots from the game bearing the image of an NPC's exposed genitals. Sony have effectively issued bans on these players.
One such gamer, Adam, confirmed that his account on Sony was suspended because he used an in-game camera to screen capture the image from "Watch Dogs 2." He also received a notification from Sony advising him of the one month ban, as shared on NeoGaf.
The company cited that capturing the photo of the genitalia and then sharing it on PSN goes against the company's Code of Conduct on content of sexual nature. But by the very nature of "Watch Dogs 2," which has a nudist colony within the game, some gamers argue against the banning policy. BBC reports that after complaints on their action on Adam, Sony has lifted his suspension.
Johnny Etc cites that the genitalia could've been an in-game feature to "Watch Dogs 2" as well. Regardless, with Sony enforcing the bans, Ubisoft has agreed that this will be removed from the game immediately.
