It is a common practice in today's digital age that popular versions from different entertainment mediums are incorporated into a new show to gain the same momentum. It is very successful with instant hits like "Game of Thrones" and "The Walking Dead" are good examples for this strategy that did not quite work in USA Network's "Shooter".
"Shooter" is based on Stephen Hunter's novel called "Point of Impact" that was also shown in movie theaters in 2007. Mark Wahlberg was the executive producer of that film. The story of ex-military sniper Bob Lee Swagger (Ryan Phillippe) is highlighted here. Swagger is already illustrated in nine books but, action movie-goers are more inclined into Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan type of adaptation.
However, the network is trying to beat the odds through the viewership of the main cast, Ryan Phillippe. "Shooter" has been much awaited when USA Network disclosed its update. Nov. 19 is the big day. It was originally scheduled for July 19 launch, but halted due to the gun violence in Dallas and Baton Rouge, according to TV Line.
USA Network's "Shooter" should not have a problem making it on TV screens since "Shooter", the movie was third on the box office chart in 2007. It made $95.7 million against a $61 million budget that's considered good but other Wahlberberg film productions just did better. It has become a learning point that things like that must be considered, as per Forbes.
Aside from delays, the Tom Sizemore accident also give the production a problem. He ran over a stuntman and was later arrested for domestic violence - and that's when he got fired. Ryan Phillippe's star quality also needs to be tested on TV. The 42-year-old actor is a soap opera personality as shown in "One Life to Live" and "Cruel Intentions."
He is also one of the stars of "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer", but so far, not the main hit star yet. How he will make USA Network's "Shooter" successful is something to look forward to .
