Melania Trump Won’t Be As Fashionable As Other FLOTUS? Designers Refusing To Let Her Wear Their Clothes?

It seems Melania Trump won't be as fashionable as other FLOTUS. A fashion designer literally made a fashion statement refusing to dress the incoming First Lady Melania Trump. Is this going to be the start for others in the fashion industry to do the same?

As Heidi Klum in her popular fashion-based reality TV competition, "Project Runway", says, "In fashion, one day you're IN, the next day you're OUT". It seems Melania Trump, next FLOTUS, is tittering on getting kicked out of fashion. Or would be not as fashionable as former First Ladies of the United States were.

In an open letter posted on Twitter, French-born, NYC-based fashion designer Sophie Theallat says, "I will not participate in the dressing or associating in any way with the next First Lady". This is quite a bold move for Sophie Theallat who frequently dressed outgoing First Lady Michelle Obama.

Sophie Theallat also says that as an immigrant herself the issues of racism, sexism, and xenophobia that Melania Trump's husband, President Elect Donald Trump, has set loose during his campaign and is still reverberating in the US, is against the values of her fashion brand. "We value our artistic freedom and always humbly seek to contribute to a more humane, conscious and ethical way to create in this world".

The fashion designer whose clothes are also a Hollywood favorite does acknowledge that her fashion brand would likely suffer economically has also said, "Integrity is the real currency". Sophie Theallat is urging others in the fashion industry to do the same.

Well, Sophie Theallat might be the first fashion designer to vocally and publicly refuse to associate with any of the Trumps but insiders in the fashion industry are saying this has been going on for a long time. Critics have noticed that most of the clothes the Trump ladies like Melania, Ivanka, and Tiffany are wearing are always brought online on sites like Net-a-Porter or from Ivanka Trump's clothing line. A spokesperson from the Trump campaign also said that Melania Trump is not working on with any designers.

Although Melania Trump's future fashion-wise would be a tad lackluster, designer Carolina Herrera believes that eventually designers would be willing to dress the future FLOTUS. But Melania Trump would be waiting a long time for that to happen. It's no secret that big names of the fashion industry have been very vocal and open with their support to then Democratic Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
