"Pokemon Go" event targeted to boost the tourism of tsunami-devastated areas in Japan is on the way. The "Pokemon Go Lapras" event is the first non-Holiday event for the "Pokemon Go" game.
"Pokemon" Lapras is a type of "Pokemon" that is considered among the rarest "Pokemon" of all time. Fans of "Pokemon" will surely descend on the tsunami-devastated areas in Japan, particularly the coastal areas of Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima Prefecture for the "Pokemon Go Lapras" event. The "Pokemon Go Lapras" event started last November 11 and end on November 23.
The "Pokemon Go Lapras" event is an event collaborated by Niantic Labs, the "Pokemon Go" game developer, and the local government of the Tohoku region. The "Pokemon Go Lapras" event aims to boost the tourism of the areas affected by the tsunami last March 2011. The Tohoku region has seen and experienced the worst effects of the tsunami. Although the region has already gotten back up on its feet, the drop of tourists visiting the area has affected the economy of the Tohoku region.
Residents and business owners along with the local government have prepared for the "Pokemon Go Lapras" event that will be held in their regions. "Pokemon Go" players that will surely flock the region to catch the rare "Pokemon" Lapras will also get to experience the local culture, get to taste local foods and avail of goods unique to the Tohoku region.
It was reported that Miyagi Prefecture, one of the places in the Tohoku region, allotted around 30 million yen (approximately $290,144 US dollars) for "Pokemon Go" related expenses. With the "Pokemon Go Lapras"event on-going in the Tohoku, this "Pokemon Go" event will get the Tohoku region its much-needed break.
Not only is the "Pokemon Go Lapras" event generating interest from local "Pokemon Go" players in Japan but also from "Pokemon Go" players around the world. Dedicated "Pokemon Go" players like ProfessorBarium and Nick from Trainer Tips who made plans to go to Japan just to participate in the "Pokemon Go Lapras" event.
