Instagram may have pushed the comfort zone of its 500 million users since they announced a new update: its screenshot feature. The idea is, Instagram will send you an alert whenever someone screenshots your picture or whatever you have posted. This latest update does not sit well with many of its users.
The concept is similar to Snapchat's features. While many IG users have immediately panicked upon hearing the screenshot feature, industry insiders say that the feature is simply misunderstood, The Verge reports.
So, what is it with the screen grab alerts? An Instagram representative explained that the idea is simply to give the app users better control over the app's private sharing feature. Meaning, when a person sends a real-time video or a photo as a direct message to friends, it will soon disappear from their inboxes. The sender will only receive an alert if the recipients screen-grabs the video or photo before it disappears.
Radically, this is where the confusion comes from -- notifications do not apply to Instagram photos or videos that are already posted on the user's feed. You have two ways to send disappearing photos. You can either hit the camera icon at the top left or the one at the center bottom to take a shot and then send it as a private message.
Moreover, the Daily Mail reported that Instagram has also launched its own live video broadcasting service called ¨Instagram Stories.¨ Users can now create 10-second videos of which they can apply doodles, filters, emojis, and other special effects. The highlight of this feature is that the user can choose which of his or her followers can view the posted video.
