Could Jared Harris be playing the role of a younger Dumbledore in the "Fantastic Beasts" sequel? Casting has not yet been confirmed for the pivotal part and a star from "Doctor Who" also wants to take on the role.
Since it was revealed that the sequel will finally show Dumbledore in his early years, fans have been lobbying for Jared Harris to play the part. The actor's father, Richard Harris, was the original Dumbledore in the first "Harry Potter" movies before he passed away.
But Jared Harris, 55, said that the casting decision is not up to him and he was not approached for the Dumbledore role by the people behind "Fantastic Beasts." He's also not sure that the studio bosses would consider those fan campaigns pushing his casting. "I haven't heard anything and I don't expect to," he said, according to Standard.
Meanwhile, "Doctor Who" star Arthur Darvill, 34, is openly saying that he would love to be the young Dumbledore in "Fantastic Beasts." Speaking with Digital Spy, the actor said that he surely would consider the role if he gets a call from the powers that be. "I would be totally happy just playing wizards for the rest of my life" he said.
Dumbledore is important to the upcoming movie because of his ties with Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp), whose character was revealed at the end of the first film. The sequel will also move its setting from New York to London, which is Dumbledore's home base.
J.K. Rowling has said that she's already done with the screenplay for the "Fantastic Beasts" sequel even before the first movie was released in theaters this mid-November. The movie is set for a late 2018 release and it will be followed up with three more installments to total five films in the franchise.
