“Westworld” Season 1 finale, entitled “The Bicameral Mind," is set to be 90 minutes long, longer than its usual episodes. How will the final episode play out?
HBO’s “Westworld” hasn't released a synopsis for its final episode, but the title of the episode already points out to what viewers can expect. It was pointed out that the show is different from the “Westworld” 1973 film as the robots will not break from bondage because of a malfunction.
Here’s where the bicameral mind plays a bigger role. Historically speaking, people weren’t able to become self-aware when they weren't able to express themselves. Once language was developed, metaphorical language is also expressed.
Similarly, the robots in “Westworld” Season 1 has slowly, but surely, developed bicameralism. The robots are being constantly exposed to language, which allows them to create their own narrative, according to Inverse.
Aside from this, the episode is also tagged as the episode that weaves it all, actor Jimmi Simpson revealed in an interview with TVLine. He also hinted that there’s another world that’s observing or "playing god" with the characters in the park.
However, the ultimate question is, can consciousness be achieved by a robot that has a sufficient complex language? If it is possible, will this be the end and the beginning of another season in “Westworld?”
Season 2 is slated to air in fall of 2017, or even later. The production is said to be currently encountering a “big endeavor.” “Westworld” Season 1 Episode 10 is set to air on Dec. 4 on HBO.
