Dive into fifteenth-century Spain with actor Michael Fassbender as 20th Century Fox, Practical Magic, New Regency, Ubisoft, AMD, and Dell-owned Alienware collaborate on a large-scale project: "Assassin's Creed" movie VR experience. The VR experience is slated to run beginning Dec. 2, 2016, until Jan. 1, 2017, in select AMC theaters.
The "Assassin's Creed" movie VR experience is one of the most expensive developments accompanying the theatrical release of the live-action adaptation of the game. According to VR project director Matt Lewis, the goal of the "Assassin's Creed" movie VR experience is to raise the bar for VR, and break some rules, as reported by CNET.
"360 video experiences should be just as powerful and rich as an actual film," "Assassin's Creed" movie VR project director Lewis said. "We're in the Pong era of VR right now."
The report further noted that Lewis' company, Practical Magic, took to great lengths in tackling specific elements of the "Assassin's Creed" movie VR experience. They had to ensure that there isn't any room for error. Meanwhile, chipmaker AMD and Dell-owned Alienware also added the tech to create and demo the VR experience.
Variety reported that the "Assassin's Creed" movie VR experience content is available via the Oculus Video App for Oculus Rift and Samsung VR. Also, a 36-degree video through Facebook is another option, which was available beginning Thursday night, when the game debuted at the 2016 Game Awards.
The "Assassin's Creed" movie VR experience is available during afternoon hours, starting at 2PM or 3PM, each day and ending at 9PM or 10PM. There are six participating locations equipped with several free Oculus Rift kiosks: Century City 15 (Los Angeles, CA), Orange 30 (Orange, CA), Lincoln Square 13 (NYC), 34th Street 14 (NYC), Barton Creek 14 (Austin, TX), and Metreon 16 (San Francisco, CA), as reported by The Verge.
So, if you are nearby or is situated in any of the earlier-mentioned locations, grab the 10-minute "Assassin's Creed" movie VR experience and plunge into the Spanish Inquisition era alongside Michael Fassbender as he makes a 15-second cameo in the game.
In other news, the "Assassin's Creed" movie premieres December 21. The movie, of course, features Fassbender as Callum Lynch, a criminal and descendant of the Assassins who is sent back into the Spanish Inquisition era via the Animus where he must learn how to fight the Templar organization in order to defeat them in the future.
