'Z Nation' Season 4 News & Updates: Renewal Confirmed! Syfy Ordered 13 More Zombie Drama For 2017 Premiere

The zombie apocalypse drama series "Z Nation" lives on for more zombie blood and gore. Syfy ordered 13 episodes for the series ahead of "Z Nation" Season 3 finale, which will air on Dec. 16.

The Hollywood Reporter learned that NBC Universal-owned cable network Syfy has renewed the zombie apocalypse action/horror/comedy/drama for "Z Nation" Season 4. Similar with Season 1, "Z Nation" Season 4 will comprise 13 episodes and will premiere in 2017.

According to TVLine, unlike similar-themed series such as "The Walking Dead," "Z Nation" focuses on zombie kills and over-the-top gore paired with pitch-black humor. Since the debut of "Z Nation" in 2014, its ratings have more or less been under the radar, just garnering over a million viewers with "Z Nation" Season 3 premiere.

"Z Nation" was originally created by Craig Engler and Karl Schaefer and produced by The Asylum, known for films like "Dead Men Walking" and "Sharknado." "Z Nation" Season 3 is currently airing Friday nights at 9/8c on Syfy.

The apocalypse zombie drama "Z Nation" Season 3 will conclude on Dec. 16, with its season finale. With mostly positive reviews from critics, "Z Nation" is truly Syfy's series hit, per TV By The Numbers. The show stars Russell Hodgkinson, Nat Zang, and Kellita Smith.

"Z Nation" takes place 3 years after a zombie virus took over the entire US. A group of heroes try to transport from New York to California the only known survivor of the virus attack. The only remaining virus lab waits to receive the blood of the survivor.
