Google Rolls Out Android 7.1.1 For Pixel, Nexus Devices, Tags New Emojis, Security and Stability Improvements

Android developer has announced the arrival of the new version of Nougat, the Android 7.1.1. The "sweet upgrade" will include, among others, new ways for the users to express themselves and of course, stability, security and performance improvements.

According to Ars Technica, the "new minor version" of the Android Nougat is now available for the Pixel and Pixel XL and the Pixel C. The Nexus 6P, 5X, 9 LTE and Nexus Player will also be receiving the update, which will include "security update and some bug fixes" rolled out in December. Google meanwhile upped the ante for the novel Pixels: upon releasing the duo already carried the Android 7.1 OS, while the Nexus lineup (Android 7.0), marked the end of its "Android 7.1 Developer Preview."

Ironically, the website added that the December security update the Nexus will be receiving is based on the previous Android 7.0 blueprint, and not on the new version. It further said that the Nexus 6 will not be blessed with the Android 7.1 firmware this month.

Over on Google's official blog, Android Product Manager Agustin Fonts said that Android 7.1.1 will come with their vision to "promote gender equality". This will be reflected in the inclusion of new emojis of women and the "pivotal roles" that they play in society. Users can also send GIFs directly from Google Allo, Hangouts and Messenger.

Android 7.1.1 is also extending Google's pursuit "to make life easier" by bringing app shortcuts to the home screen. Compatible Smartphone owners can now launch their favorite applications by long-pressing the icon, or jump directly to an open command from the icon itself. Pixel devices will also get back the "Ambient Display" that the Nexus previously carried. Its predecessor, however, will deal Google's decision "to make many features exclusive to the Pixel". As such, Nexus phones won't receive the novel Google Assistant and the Pixel Launcher, but it will get the new emojis and "better touch input latency", among others.
