Squad Goals: 21 Teenagers And Children File Lawsuit Against US Government For Not Guarding Them From Threat Of Climate Change

A squad of 21 children and teens aged between 9 and 20 has just won the authority to file a lawsuit against United States Government over its inadequacy to sufficiently address climate change threats after US District Judge Ann Aiken ruled it can advance to court. Now the 21 plaintiffs are getting ready for trial in which they believed will 'be the trial of our lifetimes.'

A pioneering decision announced last Nov. 11 brought so much happiness and relief to a group of 21 young plaintiffs. The announcement said: U.S. District Court Judge Ann Aiken ruled in favor of a group of 21 young adults and children in their suit against the US federal government, the Slate has learned.

The 21 young plaintiffs are suing the government for the violations of their constitutional rights by the affirmative actions of their government which they claim have triggered climate change. The case argues that the climate change is aggravated by the amassed actions of the government in allowing development of fossil fuel, promoting the industry of fossil fuel and several other similar efforts.

Furthermore, the young accusers said that the administration and the companies behind those actions did not stop prioritizing short-term advances for over five decades with complete knowledge of the high dangers they caused. As per The New Yorker, the present case claims that the US government has done both too much to aggravate climate change and too little to address the threat.

Julia Olson, the primary legal counsel of the squad, said that the present case and the current government are significant, particularly with the latest political conditions within America. President Donald Trump assigned Myron Ebell, a notorious denier of climate change, to rule the Environment Protection Agency. Obviously, the squad can't expect any help from Trump administration.

One plaintiff named Xiuhtezcatl Martinez, 16, the Earth Guardians' youth director, said his her generation is rewriting history. She added they are doing what several people told them they were not capable of doing: holding their leaders responsible for their dangerous and disastrous actions. The squad of young plaintiffs is demanding justice for their generation and future generations.

Meanwhile, this is not the only federal case brought up by youngsters. This is just one of the many. Huffington Post reported a similar case of young people suing Massachusetts state government over its incapability to address the danger of climate change.
