'Bluetooth 5' Goes Live With More Power and Connectivity Range; Bluetooth 5-Enabled Devices to Come Out in Two to Six Months?

Bluetooth connectivity just got even faster with the release of "Bluetooth 5." The latest standard in Bluetooth connectivity will come with increased range, message capability, and interoperability.

According to Techcrunch, Bluetooth 5 was revealed in June, but will officially enter the market in the next couple of months, eventually taking over from the current Bluetooth 4.3 standard. The Bluetooth 5 standard boasts four times wider range, two times faster connectivity speed, and eight times broadcast message capacity.

The new Bluetooth standard is made to keep up with the growing need for strong connections and information relay, especially when households are starting to get huge technological upgrades. Bluetooth 5 aims to offer better connectivity across large homes and relay information instantly not only to smartphones but also to smart appliances and other smart home devices.

Even with all the upgrades to the new Bluetooth Standard, Bluetooth 5.0 retains its low-power consumption, ensuring that the new extended range and stronger connectivity won't drain battery life faster. Bluetooth 5.0 is also built to limit friction with other wireless technologies used by the Internet of Things (IoT) developers, like WiMax or ZigBee.

In a press release found on Bluetooth's website, the company says that the Bluetooth 5.0 standard will propel more advanced Bluetooth 5-enabled devices for outdoor and industrial use, as well as commercial application of the Bluetooth standard. They also aim to help meet the need of IOT developers and consumers while ensuring seamless and secure connectivity.

Though already available for use, Bluetooth 5-enabled devices will be out on the market in the next two to six months, especially smart devices like home security devices, outdoor smart cams, and maybe even smart coffee makers. Bluetooth 5-enabled devices might be present at CES trade show 2017 which happens in Nevada.
