Usually, action-fantasy movies revolve around superheroes. For instance, "The Avengers" revolves around a group of superheroes working together, while "Captain America: Civil War" shows a conflict between two groups of superheroes. However, the case is different with the upcoming flick, "Suicide Squad," as the story focuses on a team of supervillains.
Since there are supervillains, there should be superheroes to balance the force of good and evil. According to Cinemablend, Batman will appear in "Suicide Squad" and the Dark Knight will be in a car chase with The Joker. There are also speculations that Aquaman will be among Amanda Waller's prisoner.
Since there are protagonists in the film, many wonder if Superman will also battle the antihero team. However, fans of the Man of Steel, who want to see him in the said film, might be disappointed because Henry Cavill gave a firm "no" when asked by Metro of a cameo in "Suicide Squad."
Despite Superman's absence in the said film, there is a chance that he will appear in its sequel. Cavill was asked about a cameo on a potential sequel and his response, "I might be!" The report suggests that there is a high box office expectation for "Suicide Squad" and "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." This means that Warner Bros. will likely lock the actor into a multiple film contract.
After "Batman v Superman," Cavill will appear in "Justice League" parts one and two. Although, Superman will be missing in "Suicide Squad," his presence will be felt. In the San Diego Comic-Con footage, Amanda Waller is heard speculating about Superman's influence in her superpowered and talented prisoners to come out and introduce a new era to the society.
According to ScreenRant, it is not shocking to miss Superman in the antihero film because although he is a big part of the DC universe, there is no rule that he should appear in every DC film. The report likened this incident to Iron Man, who also do not appear in every Marvel movie only to tell the audience that the projects are of the same franchise.
There are organic ways to establish connections among movies, and filmmakers should pursue those options that do not give any trail that something is forced. Moreover, since the said film focused on the evildoers in the DC universe, it would be difficult to fit the Man of Steel.
"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" will hit theaters on March 25, 2016, while "Suicide Squad" will be released on August 5, 2016.
