Nintendo tries to enter the mobile gaming arena with its "Super Mario Run" for smartphones. With only a week left before its official launch, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto revealed details about the classic game that children of the 90s were addicted to.
What makes "Super Mario Run" for smartphones different from its predecessors is that players will not be able to control Mario forward and backward. Instead, Mario will run on his own and the player can only control when he jumps, according to The Verge. Basically, this strips down the core of the original "Super Mario Bros." game.
Players of "Super Mario Run" for smartphones will only need a light tap for a quick hop. The longer press will send Mario flying. A number of moves can be combined with just one simple button. Simplicity is the key to the latest Super Mario Run for smartphones.
In fact, previous reports compared "Super Mario Run" for smartphones to the coin-collecting adventure game "Temple Run." Guy Dangerous runs on his own and he can jump, slide, and collect coins.
Meanwhile, GameSpot reported some the big reveals Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto dished out regarding the upcoming release of "Super Mario Run" for smartphones. "One thing we have done this time is that you'll be able to play not just as Mario, but after going through the game and unlocking some things and meeting some conditions, you'll be able to play as some of the other characters as well," Shigeru Miyamoto said.
"Super Mario Run" for smartphones was unveiled last June during Apple's WWDC event. However, the game will be exclusive to iOS. It will be launched on Dec. 15. But for Android users, "Super Mario Run" for smartphones is slated to be out by 2017.
