Fox Set To Do ‘Puff The Magic Dragon’ Live-Action And Animated Movie; To Rival Disney Film ‘Pete’s Dragon?’

"Puff The Magic Dragon" will no longer be just an old folk song about the friendship between a dragon and a shy child soon. Recent buzz confirms that the 1963 song from Peter, Paul, and Mary will soon be a mix of a live-action and animated movie with the film network, Fox to make it happen. Movies about dragons seem to be on the rise as Disney also released the film "Pete's Dragon last August and the movie was a hit with worldwide earnings of $142 million.

The idea to make a film out of the "Puff the Magic Dragon" is not so surprising since the song which supposedly started as a poem features a nice story about a stranger friendship between a boy and a dragon. In fact a short animated film based on the song was released in 1978. Since this mythical creature has always captured the imagination of many, "Puff the Magic Dragon" live-action movie has the potential to be the next favorite of many.

Yet undoubtedly, a live-action and animated version will be much more interesting. According to a post from Deadline, Mike Mitchell of the film, "Trolls" is set to direct the movie adaptation of the song which was penned by Peter Yarrow and Lenny Lipton. The film will be produced by Tory Tunnell, Joby Harold and Akiva Goldsman.

An article from Slash Film points out the possibility that Fox's decision to do a movie version of "Puff the Magic Dragon" may have something to do with Disney's release of "Pete's Dragon." The said Disney film fared well at the box office and received positive reviews from critics. If that is the case, viewers will then be the judge on what dragon movie will be better upon the release of "Puff the Magic Dragon."
