"Homeland" Season 6 is returning to television on Showtime on Sunday, Jan. 15 with Carrie (Claire Danes) taking care of Quinn (Rupert Friend). But unknown to viewers, Quinn should have died in the last season and producers have revealed why this never happened. The show has also announced the addition of a new cast member who is described as an anarchist.
Last season of "Homeland" should have ended with Carrie letting Quinn have a merciful death. The final scenes revealed the character fighting for his life following a harrowing encounter with terrorists, and Carrie was supposed to pull the plug on him.
But "Homeland" executive producer Alex Gansa said that they couldn't proceed with this. "There was the whole business about her faith and this newfound Catholicism, and we were like, 'I just don't think she is going to kill him at the end," he told TV Line.
Thus, "Homeland" Season 6 will see Quinn alive and recovering from his near-death experience. But Gansa added viewers should be expecting a different Quinn because of what he went through. The change is going to affect his relationship with Carrie in a way that "opens up possibilities," the EP said.
Meanwhile, the show has cast Jake Weber to play the role of Brett O'Keefe, a white supremacist. The Hollywood Reporter describes his character as an "aggressive and charming anarchist" who supports alternative right (alt-right) movements.
Previous reports reveal that "Homeland" Season 6 will take place during the transition of the presidency. It will open with the election victory of America's first female president, Elizabeth Keane, and the episodes will lead up to her inauguration in the season's finale.
The new president on "Homeland" will be played by actress Elizabeth Marvel. She was recently spotted filming some of her scenes in New York with Claire Danes, as Parent Herald previously reported.
