'The Get Down' Season 2 Air Date, Cast, News, Update: Is Justice Smith Leaving Netflix, Baz Luhrmann Series?

"The Get Down" Season 2 from Netflix and creator Baz Luhrmann may be getting ready for the 1980s, but will star Justice Smith (Ezekiel "Books" Figueroa) still be around. With Justice Smith being snapped up for "Jurassic World 2" to join stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard and director J.A. Bayona, is the Netflix series in danger of losing its own lead? To be sure Baz Lurhmann would still have fan faves Shaolin Fantastic (Shameik Moore) and Mylene Cruz (Herizen F. Guardiola) to work with, the hope is that Justice Smith will stick around.

Certainly, Justice Smith is no stranger to big budget productions. "The Get Down" series boasts being among the most expensive productions from Netflix. In fact, part of the controversy that surrounds the Baz Luhrmann production is the cost of bringing the series off the ground.

Buzz of cancellation had been among the speculations that hounded "The Get Down." Recent cancellation of Netflix original "Marco Polo" could make followers slightly nervous. This is so especially considering, "The Get Down" actually tops "Marco Polo" in terms of production costs.

Nevertheless, resonance of the Netflix series among followers seemed justification enough for the expenses tied to the Baz Luhrmann production. Perhaps the more exciting part of the series is how Baz Luhrmann chose to work with leads, who are relatively unknown in the industry. Justice Smith, Shameik Moore and Herizen F. Guardiola are each fresh faces in showbiz.

"The Get Down" series getting a 2017 Golden Globes nomination snub – as Variety reports – notwithstanding, the Justice Smith starrer continues strong. Season 1 is released in two parts, with Netflix delivering the first half on Aug 12. The second half of Season 1 is yet to get a final release date but is tagged for a 2017 schedule.

Between schedules for "The Get Down" series, Justice Smith has more than "Jurassic World 2" on his plate. According to The Hollywood Reporter Justice Smith fans can expect to see the Netflix star off-Broadway on Jan 30 for "Yen." Justice Smith is set to begin filming for "Jurassic World 2" in Feb 2017.
