'Transformers: The Last Knight' Release Date, News & Latest Updates: Optimus Prime Gone Bad? Parallel Time Lines In New Michael Bay Film?

"Transformers: The Last Knight" from director Michael Bay recently dropped a new trailer where one of Optimus Prime and Bumblebee seems to have gone bad. Whatever the cause of the clash between the Autobots, the new "Transformers" film will tell the story in two timelines. The latest instalment in the franchise brings back Cade Yaeger (Mark Wahlberg) and brings in Anthony Hopkins, Isabela Moner (Izabella), Liam Garrigan (King Arthur).

Collider cites producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura in explaining that "The Last Knight" will go back to the creation and beginning of the Transformers. Their transition from being slaves to being sentient will also be part of the film. "Transformers: The Last Knight" will touch on the beginnings of Optimus Prime, Megatron, the Librarians and Quintessons among others.

Lest "Transformers: The Last Knight" should get confusing for fans, Lorenzo Di Bonaventura explained that the new sequel will play on two timelines. A timeline that follows the past will parallel with the present. According to Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, the parallels gave the film a sense of being two different movies but eventually comes together.

As /FILM reports, "Transformers: The Last Knight" trailer showed a few historical periods. The trailer indicated a span of the Arthurian era onto World War 2 onto the period following "Transformers: Age Of Extinction." In fact, the new film will assume a setting of a few years after the events of the previous film.

Fans would recall, Optimus Prime left Earth on a mission to look for the Creators when "Transformers: Age Of Extinction" ended. Curiously, however, the new trailer provided a clip of Optimus Prime and Bumblebee brawling with each other so that one wonders if someone turned to the dark side or they were just having a bad day. "Transformers: The Last Knight" will be in theaters on June 23, 2017.
