"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" recently hit the big screens but it seems one of the characters of this standalone movie is returning to the Star Wars universe. But this time it might be the not-so-big-screen. Lucas Film's "Star Wars Rebels" will guest star Saw Gerrera.
The leader of a band of extremists and battered veteran of the Clone Wars will appear on the animated television show produced by Lucasfilm Animation. Saw Gerrera, played by actor and producer Forest Whitaker, will be on "Star Wars Rebels" Season 3.
Rebels Reactions tweeted a poster from Toys R Us revealing the animated character of Forest Whitaker's Saw Gerrera. Sometimes, the smallest of the details reveals the biggest and most exciting news.
Saw Gerrera might join the crew of Ghost, who were referenced in passing in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story." The poster notably features the extremist leader with his standout lines from the movie: "Save the Rebellion. Save the Dream." In fact, this specific line was used in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" trailers and promotional materials.
Saw Gerrera first debuted in the "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" and he is the first Star Wars character to have transitioned from an animated show to a live-action Star Wars film, as reported by Epic Stream. His appearance in Season 3 of "Star Wars Rebels" will mark his come back to television.
However, it is yet to be announced what his role in "Star Wars Rebels" will be. According to ComicBook, in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," Mon Mothma mentioned that Saw proved too extreme for the Rebel Alliance. Thus, both had to part ways. Maybe "Star Wars Rebels" could shed some light on this.
Also, Saw Gerrera was originally found in the planet Jedha in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," although this doesn't confirm that "Star Wars Rebels" would actually visit the planet. If do, however, then this would mean we also get to see the temple guardians Chirrut Imwe and Baze Malbus.
But there is a good chance that "Star Wars Rebels" will visit Saw Gerrera prior to the extremist going to Jedha. This is because the events of "Star Wars Rebels" is set 14 years after "Revenge of the Sith" and 5 years before "A New Hope" and years before the main events of "Rogue One," per i09.
Saw Gerrera might be the only link between "Star Wars Rebels" and "Rogue One." "Star Wars Rebels" returns on Disney XD in Jan. 7, 2017. In the meantime, check out the trailer below.
