'Silence' 2016 Is An Ambitious Take Of Spirituality; Did This Change Liam Neeson's Faith?

“Silence” 2016 film is Martin Scorsese latest drama. Starring Liam Neeson and Andrew Garfield, the film explores the faith and spirituality. The film is based on the novel with the same title and written by Shusaku Endo.

For Liam Neeson, the film allowed him to explore his faith and how it shifts. This also allowed him to find the answer on the question where does doubt stand in religion.

However, for Neeson, he believes that “they’re both” a component of religion; faith and doubt. The ability to question whether God exist or not is a gift; something that people must celebrate because they have free-will, People reports.

The plot of “Silence” 2016 follows two priests who are in search for Father Cristovao Ferriera, portrayed by Liam Neeson. The two priests travels to Japan to find their mentor who was said to have been tortured and had committed apostasy.

The film is set during the 17th century. During this time, priest were forbidden considering that Christianity was still considered outlawed.

Neeson added that he also had to read a lot about history and during the time. He added that he had to do a lot of historical research in order to “actually start acting in the film.”

Nonetheless, as a review, some critics considered that “Silence” is not entirely a great movie. The length of the film doesn’t engage the viewers that much. However, the film is gorgeous, but also too abstruse to some moviegoers.

The great part of the film is that it allows to tackle the Big Questions about faith in a commercial medium. the “Silence” is currently the largest to have tackled the subject of faith in a film, albeit, in a literal sense, Variety reports.

What do you think of faith as the central theme of the film? “Silence” is set to hit the theaters on Dec. 23.
