Speculations are rife that "Blindspot" might be on its final season on NBC. Ratings struggles have become a concern as the show starring Jaimie Alexander ended up as the worst performing series on the network in 2016.
"Blindspot" closed the fall season with a dismal 1.1 demo rating for Season 2, according to TV Line. The number is a huge dive for a show that used to enjoy the top spot during its first season.
In its debut year, "Blindspot" had a 3.2 demo rating and was part of the Top 30 shows of 2015-2016, according to Deadline. With its recent numbers, network executives and producers could be scrambling to fix the series. As TV Line suggests, a move to a cushier time slot for the midseason might help the show improve its numbers.
Back in May, Entertainment Weekly reported that "Blindspot" would be headed for a tough challenge with its second season in the fall. From a Monday 10 p.m. slot, NBC decided to put the show in a new time schedule -- at Wednesdays 8 p.m. The network thought that the spy series will be able to sustain its audience.
The issue, however, is that the early Wednesday night time schedule has always had a problematic history in previous seasons. Now, "Blindspot" has sunk the timeslot's numbers even lower, thus making the show the worst performing NBC series for 2016-2017 season.
Apart from the time schedule affecting "Blindspot," the show's recent storyline hasn't been warmly received by viewers. Fans complain that the show's delving on the Sandstorm mystery haven't been compelling enough compared to Season 1. There have also been changes in the relationship dynamics of the characters, which made "Blindspot" Season 2 more uneven.
Are you still watching "Blindspot" and are you loving the changes in the stories so far? Will you still come back to watch the show? It returns for its first episode in 2017 on Wednesday, Jan. 4 on NBC. Check out the teaser below.
