"Sing” 2016 is not another “Zootopia.” It really has more songs and singing of every animal karaoke fans have been looking for in an animated musical.
It doesn’t have that much quality, critics suggest that it’s best to skip the film this holiday. It follows the story of a koala bear, voiced by Matthew McConaughey, named Buster Moon.
Buster Moon in “Sing” owns a failing theater. To give his business one last hurrah, he puts up a singing competition with a price of $1,000. Unfortunately and fortunately, a typo error was made that the price is $100,000.
There were a lot of animals in the city who came because of the prize. However, the lack of focus hurts the film’s storyline. In a fast-phase move, viewers see Rosita, voiced by Reese Witherspoon, singing as she prepares the breakfast for her piglets.
Meen, voiced by Tori Kelly, sings to her grandfather and Ash (Scarlett Johansson) singing to her boyfriend’s band, The Young Folks review on “Sing.”
However, some critics may have considered it as a film in its entirety, looking for plots and stories, instead of a big musical number. In the film, it’s only Ash’s character who writes an original composition. All the other animals just sing parts of some pop music.
Nonetheless, this isn’t a bad thing, though. It’s clear that Illumination knows how to please the audience considering that they focus on performing old songs rather new compositions.
The success of “Sing” lies on the fact that people watch it because it brings a familiar tune to them. It doesn’t push new songs and rhythms, instead, it plays on the popular songs that the viewers have come to love, Collider reports.
