‘Passengers’ Michael Sheen Robot Bartender; Chris Pat And Jennifer Lawrence Quirky And Obsessive Relationship [SPOILERS!]

In the surface, “Passengers” seems to be a light love story between two people, Jim Preston (Chris Patt) and Aurora Lane (Jennifer Lawrence). Their only companion is a robot bartender, Arthur, portrayed by Michael Sheen.

The film begins as Jim wakes up from cryogenic sleep alone in Avalon. The other passengers, almost 5,000, are still asleep. The commercial space is set to go to Homestead-II and the passengers are set to wake up 120 years after their voyage.

Unluckily, Jim woke up after 90 years and now he’s trying to find a companion. He sees Aurora among the sleeping passengers. She’s one of the “Passengers” who’s the only journalist that hopes be the first to travel to space and back.

Jim woke Aurora and staged a story for the two of them, though in reality, it clearly seems like a friend/captive relationship. Jim’s secret is revealed when the Arthur talks about his true intentions to Aurora.

Another overarching story of the film is that it gets to be a sci-fi spectacle. However, it’s clear that the main goal of “Passengers” is to tackle consent. It also turns its face towards the ability of the person to be autonomous, A. V. Club reviews.

It can also be understood that Michael Sheen’s character, Arthur also plays a big role between the Jim and Aurora’s relationship. He’s the only one in the ship who knows everything about Jim’s intentions, Collider reports.

However, as a robot, how will he play or break the current scenario between Chris Patt and Jennifer Lawrence’s characters? “Passengers,” aside from being a sci-fi film that tackles existence, the main theme also allows the viewers to view a more unlikable circumstance between two people.
