The "Big Bang Theory" spinoff is really happening. Casting call for a preteen Sheldon Cooper has been announced and star Jim Parsons, as well as showrunner Steve Molaro and creator Chuck Lorre, will be actively involved in the pick.
TV Line reports that the "Big Bang Theory" spinoff is looking to cast an actor between the ages of 8 to 11 for the role of Sheldon. He is described as a "socially awkward, once-in-a-generation genius" who can be "arrogant," "confident," "short-tempered" and "fiercely ritualistic." He also lives in Texas with his mother.
These are the same traits exhibited by the adult Sheldon on "Big Bang Theory," which Jim Parsons has played for 10 seasons. It makes sense for the actor to be involved in the choice, although the reports do not say if he's also part of the spinoff show behind the scenes.
Showbiz 411 reports, however, that the actor will have executive producer credits. The spinoff series is tentatively entitled "The Sheldon Project."
According to Deadline, the new series is expected to be part of CBS's new season and is slated for 2017-2018. But while CBS might be keen on coming up with the Sheldon spinoff, it has not yet lost sight on its original show as it is a consistent top-rater.
The "Big Bang Theory" and its stars are up for another rounds of renegotiations for a potential Season 11. There have been numerous talks about whether the show will go on or be canceled because it is getting to be expensive. The cast are the highest paid TV stars to date, according to Digital Spy.
Meanwhile, the show is currently on hiatus for the holidays but it will return with new episodes on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017, according to The Big Bang Theory. Sheldon and Amy return from their trip to his hometown of Texas and it looks like it has taken a toll on his girlfriend. Check out the preview to the episode below.
