"The Good Wife" spinoff, "The Good Fight," started filming its very first episode sometime in October. At that time, creators Robert and Michelle King thought Hillary Clinton would win the presidency because she had been leading in the polls.
But as the world learned in November, Donald Trump would be taking his seat in the highest government post in America. "The Good Fight" writers had no choice but to make changes to their script since the opening scene was about the inauguration of the new president.
"Obviously, we needed to rewrite - on the eighth day of shooting," Robert King said, according to Entertainment Weekly. He showed the news site what will actually go on in the first episode of "The Good Fight," where Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski), a liberal, is described as "shell-shocked" about Donald Trump becoming president.
"It felt funny and awful to play off of Diane's stunned reaction to the inauguration," he said. The showrunner insisted, as indicated in the notes on the script, that they would depict current events in the show. Hence, there is a presidential inauguration. "The Good Fight" will debut on CBS All Access on Sunday, Feb. 19, just weeks after America welcomes its new president.
"The Good Fight" will follow a year after what happened in "The Good Wife," the mother series. Diane Lockhart might have been the top lawyer back then. But in the new show, she will be struggling to establish herself again following a financial scandal.
Returning from "The Good Wife" is Diane's former colleague, Lucca Quinn (Cash Jumbo), who forms her own law firm in Chicago. To be introduced in "The Good Fight" is Maia (Rose Leslie) who is Diane's goddaughter and a budding lawyer. Together, all three women will make up the leads of the new series.
