Netflix's "The Crown" will feature Prince Charles as an older boy when it returns for a second season. Show creator Peter Morgan reveals some of the details of the new episodes in a recent interview. "The Crown" Season 2" is expected to launch on the streaming site in the later part of 2017.
"The Crown" has been filming the second season even before the show debuted on Netflix last November. The story about the life and family of Queen Elizabeth II will be moving forward into the mid-60s era for its sophomore year.
"We start to focus on Charles as a young boy and his education, and on Philip and his back story," Peter Morgan told People. In the first season, Prince Charles was only a toddler along with his sister Princess Anne.
Prince Philip's family background will also be tackled in the second season. "It's goodbye to a different, Edwardian, post-Imperial world," the scribe enthusiastically said.
"The Crown," which stars Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II and Matt Smith as Prince Philip, has been warmly received by critics. But viewers should likely not get attached to the actors, despite all the praises, as it has been confirmed they will be replaced in the later seasons.
Because of the trajectory of the show, Claire Foy and Matt Smith will only be working on "The Crown" until Season 2 only, according to Digital Spy. Succeeding seasons will feature older leads because the characters should have realistically aged as well.
Production has some ideas in mind on who should play older Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, but casting has not started. For now, it's Claire Foy who remains the star of the show. "We saw a number of actresses in the beginning [to play the young Elizabeth] who were all brilliant, but Claire... there was something about her," producer Andrew Eaton said.
Binge-watch "The Crown" on Netflix, which is still streaming with 10 episodes. Check back on this site for more updates about the show.
