Director Ridley Scott On Superhero Movies: They Have "No Story"; Says He Will Never Do Movies With No Story At All

Director Ridley Scott will not be taking projects in a heartbeat if he knows that there is no story or plot. That explains why the famed director has never done a superhero movie because he believes that such flicks have no stories.

The Guardian reported that Scott has turned down a lot of projects because of the non-reality of the situation of the superhero adding that the cinema nowadays is pretty bad. Scott is the director for the movies "Blade Runner," "Alien," "The Martian," and "Gladiator." The 79-year-old noted when asked of directing a superhero flick, he said he cannot believe in the "thin, gossamer tightrope of the non-reality of the situation of the superhero."

When asked about the 1982 sci-fi flick starring Harrison Ford, which is "Blade Runner" and recently has a sequel called "Blade Runner 2049," he said that even if it was categorized under superhero flicks, it is different from the superhero films now. He said that the original "Blade Runner" flick is a dark story told in an unreal world adding that he could put Batman or Superman in that world but the difference is that he would have a good story as opposed to having no story, pertaining to the Superman and Batman movies released as of late, The Mary Sue added.

It was not specifically noted what movies were Scott throwing shade at but there have been many superhero flicks released in recent years specifically about Marvel Cinematic Universe characters as well as DC Comics.

More on the sequel of the original "Blade Runner" flick, "Blade Runner 2049" is directed by Denis Villeneuve and stars both Ford and Ryan Gosling. It is scheduled to be out in cinemas this year.

As for Scott, his recent project is "Alien: Covenant." It is the update to the 2013 flick "Prometheus" and a prequel to the 1979 movie "Alien."
