‘Bones’ Season 12 Will Introduce Another Big Bad, Showrunner Teases Hodgins And Zack's Return

"Bones" showrunner Michael Peterson has just dropped some spoilers for this new season 12. Fans can expect a new big bad and the return of Hodgins (played by T.J. Thyne) in the series.

"Bones" season 12 gave a surprising twist to the fans when the series returned with a revelation that Zack Addy (played by Eric Millegan) was not the speculated serial killer "The Puppeteer." It turns out that the killer was his therapist Dr. Roshan and Zack was in fact the miracle doctor who has been aiding Hodgins to be able to walk again.

Aside from Dr. Roshan, spoilers reveal that a new serial killer is about to be unveiled in episode 4. Interestingly, fans of "Bones" will see a different villain, whose identity was not revealed yet. This new killer is described to be more oriented with military schemes and fans can expect more action-packed scenes too. Michael Peterson told TVLine that this new big bad originally intended to attack Booth and Brennan.

Furthermore, the showrunner revealed that fans will also get to see two characters to return in the series. According to Peterson, Zack may not be seen after the premiere episode of season 12, but he will be back for one more episode, that is in episode 11.

The other character who will return is Hodgins and he will also be back in the 11th episode. Unfortunately, fans will see that Hodgins' physical condition will not change as he will still be in his paralyzed state.

However, the showrunner explained that despite Hodgins' condition, they also tried to highlight that "handicaps are real" yet fans will still see how the paralyzed Hodgins will still get to enjoy a purposeful and fantastic life.

In addition, Peterson admitted that they also considered the possibility of Hodgins being able to walk again. Apparently, they did not find it genuine and thought about those who actually have handicaps. Hence, they decided to feature Hodgins in the same paralytic state but with a positive countenance this time.

Meanwhile, the upcoming episode 2 titled "The Brain in the Bot" will feature suspense and surprises. The official trailer description reveals fans can witness how the team will investigate if the death of the man who creates artificial intelligence bots has resulted from his own A.I. bot, which is speculated to have been programmed to kill him as well.

Another plot for episode 2 will highlight how "Bones" prepares for her upcoming 40th birthday. The description teases that she is coming up with a surprise for her friends on her birthday.
