NetherRealm Studios, Warner Bros. Confirms ‘Injustice 2’ Launch Date

The follow-up to the highly-anticipated Warner Bros. superhero brawler from NetherRealm Studios finally has a release date. Earlier this week, the studio's director Ed Boon tweeted what seemed like an encrypted message pointing to the "Injustice 2" launch date.

"Injustice 2" is set to launch on May 16, 2017, according to the tweet by NetherRealm Studios Director Ed Boon. Fans and players who have been dying for news of the game's launch immediately flooded social media to find out what the message meant.

"Injustice 2" is the sequel to the highly acclaimed fighting video game "Injustice: Gods Among Us" that was released back in April 2013 on Xbox 360, Wii U, and PlayStation 3. Since the studio behind the superhero brawler is also the game studio that launched the iconic 2011 "Mortal Kombat," several of "Injustice: Gods Among Us" are built upon the previous title, such as the game's mechanics, narrative-driven campaign, controls, and online functionality. However, whether we will see this on the sequel will soon be revealed. Fans have high hopes for this game, since its predecessor was a massive hit.

According to GameSpot, Warner Bros. PR also confirmed the release date that was divulged by the studio's head. Further, the official Twitter page of NetherRealm Studios also affirmed the May 16, 2017, launch date.

At least the studio and Warner Bros. confirmed immediately the release date following a leak earlier this week stating that the game will be available on March 28. A listing on the Xbox Live Rewards' official website indicated that "Injustice 2" will be up for grabs by March. However, studio director Ed Boon quickly rebutted the "reported" leak and noted that it was false. Other games that were included in the listing were "Mass Effect Andromeda" and "South Park: The Fractured but Whole," per ComicBook.

After "leaked" promo posters back in June 2016 noting that "Injustice 2" was coming, the game's trailer debuted just before E3 2016 and its gameplay trailer followed suit later that same week. Included in the roster of superheroes that will be brawling are Harley Quinn the fan favorite, Deadshot the newcomer, Blue Beetle, and Wonder Woman, although it was earlier confirmed that joining the fray are Superman, Aquaman, Supergirl, Atrocitus, Batman, and Gorilla Grodd.

Watch out for "Injustice 2" on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as the game will soon be available. Meanwhile, check out Supergirl's gameplay trailer below.
