A mother of twins is grieving the loss of her daughter while the other continues to fight for her life at the hospital. Ziarye Freeman, 19, of Pennsylvania, suffered at the hands of an abusive boyfriend who punched her baby belly and repeatedly fought with her.
Their twins, Za'Riya Jhene and Ja'Kiya Renae, were born at 23 weeks on August 2016. Freeman, however, wasn't expecting them until December but she started dilating at 20 weeks.
Doctors confined her at the hospital to safely monitor her condition. Two weeks in, she started to experience sharp pains and thus was given an emergency C-section.
Daily Mirror reports that while there is no solid evidence that the abuse triggered her early labor, Freeman did frequently suffer physically. Her partner Jay Junior doesn't deny that he punched the mother of his kids.
Two weeks after the twins were born, Za'Riya Jhene died. The doctors told the mom her tiny daughter had a hole in her intestine. Ja'Kiya Renae, on the other hand, has had heart and gastric surgery in the last six months.
Freeman checks on her daughter every day while working as a waitress. She might, however, have to quit her job to take care of her ailing baby full time, especially since she and her daughter's father are no longer together.
Freeman's family has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the cost of Ja'Kiya Renae's medical expenses. They have raised $655 so far but the baby will need at least $30,000.
According to March of Dimes, being abused while pregnant can lead to early labor. It can also result in the baby's poor health as well as physical injuries.
Abuse should be reported to concerned agencies, whether it's physical or emotional. At least 1 in 6 women suffer from an abusive relationship while pregnant.
