The authorities arrested a Pennsylvania day care worker was and charged her after surveillance video revealed she deliberately pushed a four-year-old girl under her care down the stairs. The woman was also fired from her job.
The woman was identified as Sarah Gable and was employed at the Child Care of the Future day care center. In the video released, Gable was escorting one of the children at the center down the stairs. For no apparent reason, the day care worker pushed the child down the stairs, Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood confirmed.
At one point, after Gable pushed the girl, she looked up and realized she was being recorded. Gable then took the girl by the hand and assisted her down the remaining steps of the stairs, FOX 25 reported.
The manager of the Child Care of the Future day care center, Shawayne Tavares, said she saw Gable push the girl in real time. Tavares said she was upset with what Gable did and when she talked to the employee, she reasoned out and said the shoes caused the girl to fall.
Tavares said, "I'm like, 'It's not her shoe. I just watched you on camera do it.' Her eyes literally were like, 'Help me.' She needs to go to jail for that. You don't put your hands on a child. Point-blank."
The police officials were then called to the center. The girl suffered a minor knee injury, as per ABC 7 News. The parents of the child still returned the four-year-old at the center on Monday despite the incident.
Gable was charged with simple assault, harassment, and endangering the welfare of a child. She was released on a $25,000 bond. Gable did not release any statement why she did such act.
It was not clear how long Gable worked for the day care center and if she had prior run-ins with the law. No information was available when she will appear in court.
