The divorce rumors surrounding Scarlett Johansson and Romain Dauriac, her husband of two years, for the past months are confirmed after the former couple released different statements. Subsequently, new reports have surfaced regarding what will happen in their custody battle over their child.
The "Ghost in the Shell" star released a statement saying she will never comment on the divorce proceedings and the custody battle over their two-year-old daughter named Rose Dorothy. Dauriac, an art curator, said it is unfortunate for their daughter that Johansson filed in court and made their marital problems public. He said he would pursue her to withdraw the divorce filing and urge her to negotiate, E News reported.
Dauriac added, "We are the parents of a lovely daughter whom we will continue to co-parent for many years and share her joys and sorrows as only a parent can." Dauriac and Romain's attorney, Hal Mayerson, said they were in the middle of negotiations over the custody of their daughter when the actress made it public by filing for divorce in court.
In the divorce filing, the actress asked custody over their daughter in the filing. Mayerson added they wanted to negotiate about the custody not based on the schedule of Johansson since she is an actress or Dauriac's but what will be beneficial to the child, as per USA Today.
Some divorce lawyers commented on the proceedings. They said Johansson will most probably not go back to the negotiating table.
Under the Uniform Child Jurisdiction Enforcement Act, the court of jurisdiction is wherever the child has been living for the previous six months. It is possible that they will claim Rose lives in New York.
The divorce lawyers also asserted the court will see if the disruption of the divorce will have an adverse effect on children. Meanwhile, the reason for the split remained unclear. The two broke up since summer last year. They married in 2014 and split time in New York and Paris. It was not confirmed if spending time in two countries contributed to the ending of their marriage.
