"Person of Interest" Season 5 is rumored to be the show's last on CBS but there may be a chance to see the sci-fi drama continue its story in another network. Will Netflix pick up the show for another season?
"Person of Interest" executive producer J.J. Abrams broke the hearts of many fans of the CBS sci-fi drama during the Television Critics Association's winter press tour when he spoke about the show's possible last season on TV.
"My guess is it is the final season," Abrams said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "The only heartbreak there is [is] how much good story there was to come if it were to have continued."
Abrams also admitted that while CBS has not yet given them an official release date for "POI" Season 5, fans can be left assured that the episodes will be aired on TV.
"People will get to see these episodes. I know the power of that story," he said.
Abrams, however, revealed that he was open to the idea of seeing "Person of Interest" continue in another network.
"Those are discussions that, in theory, will be had in the right time. But at the moment that's not what we're doing," he added.
Fans have been raising an online petition on Change.org, which attempts to save the show from cancellation. According to the petition, "POI" has been "one of the most unique shows on TV today" and has built a large fan base across the globe.
The show is also one of the few firsts on TV to touch up on social issues and give LGBT representation with its characters - Root and Shaw.
The petition also aims to get the attention of other networks such as Netflix, CBS, Warner Bros., NBC, FOX, The CW and Hulu in hopes of seeing the show live on in another network. Reports claim that Netflix may pick up the show for another season, but everything should still be taken with a grain of salt.
"Person of Interest" Season 5 premieres this spring of 2016 on CBS.
