"Person of Interest" Season 5 is expected to premiere sometime this spring but fans are already worried about the show's possible finale on TV. As reported by Youth Health Mag, the upcoming season of the show may be its last after the series' usual episode count was reduced to almost half.
Producer J.J. Abrams also seemed to shatter the fans' hopes about the show's future when he expressed his thoughts on the show's possible renewal.
"My guess is it is the final season," he said. "The only heartbreak there is how much good story there was to come if it were to have continued."
The publication further noted that fans of "POI" are not giving up on finding another home for the series. Fans have started an online petition in hopes of getting the attention of other networks such as Netflix should CBS cancel the series after season 5.
The online petition for "Person of Interest" Season 5 has already received over 20,000 views as of writing and more fans are expected to submit their signatures for the campaign in the coming months.
Meanwhile, Amy Acker shared during an earlier interview with Yahoo! TV that Root will continue to feel torn between the Machine and Shaw. Acker revealed that Root had to make a tough decision to save the Machine first.
"She ultimately had to decide that if she didn't do everything to save the Machine, there's no purpose to saving Shaw," she said.
Acker, however, expressed hope that by the end of "Person of Interest" Season 5, Root and Shaw will have a happy ending and build a family together with the Machine and Shaw's twins.
