A 448-pound woman couldn't seem to lose weight despite eating only 800 calories daily and doctors found this was due to a tumor, according to the Daily Mail.
Naomi Benton, 34, didn't know why she couldn't lose weight despite only eating 800 calories daily and following a relatively strict diet. Benton even underwent gastric bypass surgery in 2008 but despite her efforts, she even gained more weight. Her doctors were baffled why this remained to be the case. She pleaded with her doctors after she gained so much weight from being only 140 pounds to a whopping 448 pounds.
In 2009, Benton was hospitalized after a bad fall where she underwent several tests which finally revealed what was actually hidden underneath all her mass. Blood tests confirmed that she was suffering from Cushing's syndrome - a collection of symptoms that develop in the body due to the overproduction of the hormone called cortisol. The said tumor that grew on top of her kidneys was the size of an orange. As a result, the mother of two underwent an eight-hour surgery to finally have it removed.
As of late, Mrs. Benton weighs 196 pounds and needs to undergo a series of surgeries that will help her get rid of excess skin. "I was always fit and healthy but when I hit 20 I started to dramatically put on weight. Just after my first pregnancy I managed to put on over 70 pounds or 5 stone despite not changing my diet and I just couldn't drop the weight. I went to the doctor numerous times about the dramatic gain but no one believed that my weight just wasn't down to a very unhealthy diet," Benton lamented.
