'Spider-Man: Homecoming' News & Update: Michael Keaton In Early Talks For Villain Role

The Spider-Man movie franchise has had a great run at casting the superhero's villain in the past, including Willem Dafoe as the Green Goblin in "Spider-Man" and Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus in "Spider-Man 2." Michael Keaton is reportedly being eyed for the role of the villain in the upcoming 2017 superhero movie from Marvel Studios entitled "Spider-Man: Homecoming," which stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-Man and Marisa Tomei as Aunt May.

The exclusive report from Variety also noted that it is still unknown which Spider-Man villain Keaton might be playing. Zendaya has also been cast in an unspecified role for "Spider-Man: Homecoming." Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have no comment on Keaton's casting, as of now.

Fans already have made predictions on which character Keaton might be playing in "Spider-Man: Homecoming." The predictions include The Vulture, Green Goblin, Mysterio and J. Jonah Jameson, according to ComicBookMovie.com.

Keaton is no stranger to superhero movies, having appeared as Batman / Bruce Wayne in Tim Burton's "Batman" and "Batman Returns." The actor also recently starred in two critically acclaimed movies "Birdman" and "Spotlight", both of which took home the Academy Award for Best Picture.

"Spider-Man: Homecoming", to be directed by Jon Watts, is the first solo movie of Spider-Man as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that includes Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man, Chris Evans' Captain America and Chris Hemsworth's Thor. The movie will be released on July 7, 2017. Tom Holland's Spider-Man will first appear this May on "Captain America: Civil War."
