The Mighty Morphin "Power Rangers" are back for an upcoming movie and with all-new costumes. Not many fans, however, liked the design and idea of the suits of these favorite superheroes.
Entertainment Weekly said that the new suits of the "Power Rangers" are way different from their original suits a few years back. The futuristic changes in the superhero outfits complement the new group of cast members for the new movie.
The actors for this new film, which will come out in theaters this May 24, are Becky G, Ludi Lin, Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott and RJ Cyler. They will all wear translucent "Power Rangers" costumes in the reboot of the superhero film.
"The show was about kids coming of age, about metamorphosis," said "Power Rangers" movie director Dean Israelite. He added that the suits will make kids and fans feel like they are full of energy and spirit.
Production designer Andrew Menzies told Entertainment Weekly that it was hard for them to find the right superhero costume for the new "Power Rangers" cast. "Ours is an alien costume that grows on them, that's not man-made." Menzies said he does not expect everyone to like it but noted that their target market is the mature audience.
Singer Becky G, who plays Yellow Ranger Trini in "Power Rangers," loved her suit and tagged it as the coolest costume she has ever seen and wore. "I'm gonna wear it for Halloween for, like, five years," the "Shower" singer added.
Many "Power Rangers" fans, however, found the costumes not appealing to the audience. Mirror said social media was filled with different negative reactions on these costumes.
"Just seen the images from the new Power Rangers film wow those suits look f***ing crap some cheap pound shop Iron Man replica crap," one netizen was quoted by Mirror as saying. Others found the "Power Rangers" costumes hideous and rubbish. "Power Rangers" release date is slated for March 24, 2017.
