A tornado has hit Oklahoma on Monday, which killed one man and destroyed several homes. The Storm Prediction Center has also announced that there is still a tornado risk in some areas of the Plains and the Ozarks in Oklahoma until Monday night.
The exact details about the casualty are still unknown, but the man killed by the Oklahoma tornado in a house is believed to be in his late 70's, the Garvin County emergency director told the Associated Press via WFMJ. Some buildings near Wynnewood, such as homes and barns, were also damaged by the large tornado.
A tornado emergency has already been issued by weather forecasters for communities located in the east of Wynnewood due to the violent storm that can produce more tornadoes. Aside from the Oklahoma tornado, hail -- as big as a baseball -- is also falling in the area.
The Oklahoma tornado was described by forecasters as big and very dangerous. Citizens were also warned that the storm is life-threatening with possible wind speeds of over 111 mph in eastern Oklahoma and central Arkansas.
There are several things that all citizens should do when their area is under a tornado warning and emergency. Preparing an emergency kit, providing a communication plan for the family, listening to weather updates through the radio and seeking safe shelter can save lives during a tornado, according to Ready.gov.
