'Star Wars' News: George Lucas Says Han Solo, Luke Skywalker Brothers?

"Star Wars" writer and director George Lucas said that Han Solo and Luke Skywalker are brothers. Not only that, but Luke Skywalker's dad is Jedi master Ben, Obi-Wan Kenobi, rather than Darth Vader.

At least these were the original intentions of "Star Wars" creator George Lucas. New York Daily News dug up a 1983 interview transcript with George Lucas to suss the original intentions attached to the successful "Star Wars" trilogy.

Among other notable changes that George Lucas made to "Star Wars" were to change the names of Yoda and Luke Skywalker. According to the "American Graffiti" creator, George Lucas initially used the named Mincha-Yoda and Luke Skywalker was originally named Starkiller.

George Lucas shortened Mincha-Yoda to Yoda to create a more homogenous and universal essence for the old Jedi master. Skywalker, on the other hand, had been intended as a name for Luke Skywalker's best friend.

George Lucas eventually switched Luke's name from Starkiller to Skywalker. This is because Skywalker gave the look a more positive essence than Starkiller did. The "Star Wars" trilogy for George Lucas had never been about sequels. To George Lucas, the "Star Wars" trilogy is three chapters of one whole book where the boundaries were less defined.

Besides Luke Skywalker and the original Han Solo being brothers, George Lucas had a different intention for Obi-Wan Kenobi in "Star Wars." "Ben (Obi-Wan) and Luke's father originally were the same person - the whole story happened to one guy - but then he got split in half into a good father-bad father relationship," George Lucas said.

"With Yoda, the concept of a Jedi master who would teach Luke was always there," George Lucas revealed further. This task originally belonged to Obi-Wan Kenobi.

In the original "Star Wars" draft, Obi-Wan Kenobi as Ben was not supposed to die in "Episode IV: A New Hope." George Lucas had intended for Obi-Wan Kenobi, rather than Yoda, to continue onto the next film to train Luke Skywalker as a Jedi.

Meanwhile, SFGate reports that George Lucas, who turned 72 on May 14, is looking at Treasure Island in San Francisco as the site of the "Star Wars" creator's museum. Should things go according to plan, George Lucas will have the museum on Treasure Island to house his illustration collections and mementos.

George Lucas sold LucasFilm to Disney in 2012. "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is the first film by LucasFilm under Disney.
