It's been six years and counting since the first "Avatar" film was released. It was a huge hit that fans have been looking forward to its sequel for years. Unfortunately, the production keeps on pushing "Avatar 2's" release date. According to reports, "Avatar 2" was delayed because it doesn't want to compete with "Star Wars: Episode 8."
'Avatar 2' Shies Away From 'Star Wars: Episode 8'
According to Ecumenical News, the delay of "Avatar 2" is not due to immense production but it is shying away from another anticipated blockbuster film, "Star Wars: Episode 8." Per Movie News Guide, James Cameron initially planned to release "Avatar 2" in December 2017 but is now moved to Christmas 2018.
The report notes that the main reason "Avatar 2" is moved is the potential competition with "Star wars: Episode 8." The upcoming "Star Wars" film will grace the big screens by the end of 2017. "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" was a huge hit and there is no doubt that "Star Wars: Episode 8" will follow the same success.
'Avatar 2' Delayed Due To A Massive Cinematic Production
Meanwhile, Parent Herald previously reported that "Avatar 2" was delayed due to an immense production. "We have decided to embark on a truly massive cinematic process," James Cameron told the Hollywood Reporter. "We began to bump up against the limitations of our art form."
Aside from this, Cameron and the rest of the team have been working on the rest of the sequels altogether. Aside from "Avatar 2," three more sequels are in the works. "Avatar 2" is slated for release in December 2018 while the other three sequels will follow in 2020, 2022 and 2023 respectively.
