Jared Leto is the latest actor to assume the identity of the popular villain Joker. The actor's portrayal will debut in "Suicide Squad," and brand new set photos are here to tease viewers about what the villain will be up to in the upcoming antihero flick.
The behind-the-scenes snapshots were published on Twitter. In it, Joker was seen holding Harley Quinn's (Margot Robbie) bat, opening a mysterious briefcase and checking his cellphone while lying in bed. Check them out below.
'Suicide Squad' Gaining Momentum On Social Media
Warner Bros. Pictures' "Suicide Squad" is now the most buzzed-about film on social media from June 17-23. It has surpassed the popularity of Disney's "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" and the "Harry Potter" spin-off "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," also from Warner Bros, Deadline reported.
The social media popularity of "Suicide Squad" is due to the character posters, new footage and its brand new "Heathens" music video unveiled last week. Directed by David Ayer, "Suicide Squad" will steer away from the grim tone of "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice," which was heavily slammed by critics.
The upcoming DC Extended Universe flick underwent reshoots to feature more lightheartedness and jokes. Birth.Movies.Death. reported in April that the studio is spending "tens of millions" to dollars to reshoot a dozen of scenes for "Suicide Squad."
'Suicide Squad' Total Runtime
"Suicide Squad's" total runtime is 130 minutes with credits, or two hours and 10 minutes, Collider reported. The news comes after Ayer confirmed on Twitter that the movie's post-production phase is done.
The upcoming film has been rated PG-13 for "sequences of violence and action throughout, disturbing behavior, and suggestive content and language," per Box Office Mojo. Producer Charles Roven noted that there are no plans for an R-rated DCEU movie in the immediate future, which means "Wonder Woman" and "Justice League" will likely carry a PG-13 rating as well.
Aside from Leto and Robbie, "Suicide Squad" stars Will Smith (Deadshot), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Jay Hernandez (El Diablo), Karen Fukuhara (Katana) and Adam Beach (Slipknot), among others. The film will also feature Ben Affleck's Bruce Wayne/Batman, who, according to Heroic Hollywood, doesn't approve of unleashing highly dangerous criminals in black ops missions in exchange for reduced prison sentences.
"Suicide Squad" bows in U.S. theaters on August 5, 2016. Watch the "Heathens" music video below performed by Twenty One Pilots.
